TwoPointZero

‘TwoPointZero’ is event I organised to bring together like-minded creative thinkers, interested in the future development of the web, media and content. The theme was ’second generation’ and was broadly underpined by the idea of a cultrual shift into the ‘post industrial era’, or as dubbed by American futurist Alvin Toffler, ‘the information age’.

Having recently read Toffler’s ‘The Third Wave’ which describes three types of societies based on the concept of waves, I have become increasingly interested change and change management.

Presenters included Rob Chiu (The Ronin), Stuart Nolan (Hex induction), and Andrew Wilson (Blink).

Some of the talking points of the evening included-

Media distribution and consumption

Media organisations are having to re-think many previously made assumptions. New technologies have facilitaed the flow of content across new delivery channels, and media owners need to follow and understand the changes in consumption and segmentation of media audiences in order to learn to accelerate the flow of their content across new channels.

A sort of pseudo ‘one to one’ relationship between producer and consumer has emerged with technologies such as Amazon and Tesco Club card where by the suggestions of purchases, offers and advertisments are person specific as opposed to the mass-to-one.

Command and control
Management too is shifting under the weight of the ‘information revolution’, the classic military command-and control style of management which dates from the industrial era is slowly be replaced by a new concept which deals with the complexities of human interaction in the new age.

Understanding and facilitating ‘change management’ is key during this process both in organisational and personal change.

Look out for another such evening in the near future ;)
